Anna Rose "Rosie" Napravnik (born February 9, 1988 in Morristown, New Jersey) is an American jockey in Thoroughbred horse racing. The daughter of farmers, she has been around horses all of her life. In 2005 she took out her jockey license and since then has been among or at the top of riders in Maryland racing and the top female rider in the United States. In 2006, it was her breakout year when she finished 31st in the national earnings title with 300 victories out of 1,465 mounts with earnings of $6,395,075 and was runner-up to Julien Leparoux for the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey that year.
That year in 2006 she won riding titles at Pimlico Race Course and Laurel Park Racecourse at all four meets.
Rosie Napravnik has had four major injuries in her short career and missed a few months of racing when she suffered a broken left leg in a racing accident at Delaware Park Racetrack. [1] in August 2008. She returned to racing in November 2008 and moved to the New York circuit at Aqueduct Racetrack for the winter.
In 2008, she finished 62nd in the national earnings title with 176 victories out of 893 mounts and with earnings of $4,247,647. Finished fifth in the 2008 Delaware Park jockey standings.
In 2009, she finished 40th in the national earnings title with 184 victories out of 1,109 mounts and with earnings of $5,176,563. She finished second in the jockey standings at Delaware Park with 152 winners out of 556 mounts with earnings of $2,623,767.
She currently rides at Fair Grounds Race Course where she is currently (3/20/2011) leading the jockey standings in the meet.
She rode Pants on Fire to a 9th place finish at the 2011 Kentucky Derby, the best finish for a woman in the history of the Derby.
